2014-2020 EarthCare Sustainability Plan (Thunder Bay)
Description
The 2014-2020 EarthCare Sustainability Plan was developed in 2014 as an updated version of the Community Environmental Action Plan (2008), reflecting a national and global shift in priorities from mitigation to adaptation to a changing climate. EarthCare is a City of Thunder Bay initiative focused on improving the health of the municipality's environment and natural resources.
The updated EarthCare Sustainability Plan will guide the community in reducing GHG emissions and creating a more sustainable future with a strong focus on making the City more robust and resilient in the face of a changing climate until 2020.
A major public consultation took place in 2013-2014 to develop the EarthCare Sustainability Plan with the community. This gave EarthCare the opportunity to create new synergies between the community and EarthCare Working Groups, promote partnerships and networking to maximize concerted efforts, stimulate actions and facilitate experiential learning that supports the process of sustainability.
As the Plan is implemented, EarthCare is more connected to the community and better positioned to work together to make Thunder Bay a sustainable and resilient community.
The City of Thunder Bay developed in 2015 a comprehensive Climate Adaptation Strategy. This Strategy, hand in hand with the Sustainability Plan, will build community resilience by reducing the risks inherent in a changing climate, and will take advantage of opportunities associated with current and future impacts of climate change.
