Greening with Native Plants
Description
Your team will work to vision a collective change at your school and to transform your school ground into a natural place to learn about nature and contribute to a healthier school environment! You will be working to make your school yard more vibrant, dynamic and green! This greening project will have you and your action team revitalizing your schoolyard by starting a greening project. You will transform your schoolyard by planting native trees, shrubs and wildflowers, and maintaining an outdoor learning space.

Teaching Process
• In this resource students learn about some of the social, economic and ecological contributions of native plants. Attention to the relationship aboriginal groups have had with native plants is included.
• students conduct research into invasive species and report their findings in poster format.
• students also create and conduct a survey of plants and animals in their schoolyard.
• in a culminating activity, students plant native plants and devise an instructional tour of the schoolyard for other students and/or members of the community.
